Body Language and Behavior Analysis No. 4783: Rep. Jamie Raskin to Rep. Jeff Van Drew re Releasing Epstein's Client List, House Judiciary Vote
Nonverbal and Behavior Intelligence
Yesterday, along strict party lines, the House Judiciary Committee voted not to release the Epstein Files. What follows is a body language and behavior analysis of an exchange between two members on that committee – Rep. Jamie Raskin and Rep. Jeff Van Drew.
After Jamie Raskin said, "At the very least, the judiciary committee should be demanding that the Epstein files be made public. That is a bipartisan agenda – at least I thought it was, and if something has changed, please let me know. But I thought that we were all for that, together...",
Rep. Jeff Van Drew responded, "Mr. Ranking member, I thank you for your testimony and fundamentally disagree with you on everything." He immediately continued, "Without objection, all the opening statements will be included in the record. And we're now going to introduce today's ..."
Note that as Van Drew says, "...statements will be included in the record. And we're now...", he twists the tip of his left index finger in his left ear canal (external auditory meatus).
In body language colloquial, this finger-twisting-in-the-ear dynamic is known as an "Ear Screw" – and has an extremely high correlation with deception.
Thus with extraordinarily-high likelihood, what Van Drew had just said to Jamie Raskin, "Mr. Ranking member, I thank you for your testimony and fundamentally disagree with you on everything" – is a lie.
When Rep. Raskin interrupts, asking him to elaborate, Van Drew responds, "I don't, I don't wanna hold up the whole hearing. So it would take a considerable amount of time – it really would."
While saying this, Van Drew falsely adjusts his microphone (a M.A.P. surrogate, consistent with low confidence, low emotional comfort, and deception) simultaneous with eyelid closure (psychological blocking, laughter/smiling suppression, deception)...
... all the while, Van Drew partially suppresses a smile while blushing (highly characteristic of deception).
SUMMARY: Rep. Jeff Van Drew's body language and other behaviors indicate he was lying to Rep. Jamie Raskin yesterday when he said, "I thank you for your testimony and fundamentally disagree with you on everything."
Rep. Van Drew was also lying when he said, "I don't, I don't wanna hold up the whole hearing. So it would take a considerable amount of time – it really would."
Note that Jeff Van Drew was the Democratic nominee in New Jersey's 2nd congressional district in the 2018 election. After winning his election with 52.9% of the vote – and after opposing the 1st impeachment of Donald Trump, Van Drew switched to the Republican Party.
